Signs to look for
When fringe needs attention
The ends of a rug take a lot of wear.
Vacuums catch the fringe, feet scuff it and pets sometimes chew it. Over time it can work loose, wear away or tangle.
- Loose or unravelling
- Missing in places
- Tangled or matted
- Uneven or patchy
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a look before it gets worse.

Our first look
How we look at your fringe
We look before we suggest anything.
First we check how the fringe is attached. On many hand-made rugs, the fringe is the ends of the threads that run through the whole rug. On others, it is sewn on.
Then we look at the ends: how worn they are, and whether the edge where the fringe meets the pile is still holding.
We tell you what we found, in plain words.

Your options
Repair, rebuild or tidy
Plain options, explained before any work.
There’s more than one way to look after fringe. What makes sense depends on your rug and the state it’s in.
- Repair For fringe that is loose or coming apart. We secure what is there.
- Rebuild For fringe that is missing in places. New fringe, hand-made or machine-made, can sometimes be added, if the rug allows it.
- Tidy For fringe that is tangled or uneven. A careful untangle and trim may be all it needs.
We tell you what makes sense for your rug, and what it costs, before we start.

One visit
Wash first, then the fringe
One pickup, one delivery.
We always wash your rug first, even if it’s fairly new. The wash clears out loose fibres and shows any hidden damage, so the fringe repair can be done properly. The fringes also get extra treatment after drying.
Just mention the fringe when you book, so we know to take a close look.

Questions
Fringe repair questions
The questions we hear most, answered plainly. For anything else, just call us.
How much does fringe repair cost?
It depends on your rug and what the fringe needs, so we look at it before we price it. Text us photos and the rug’s dimensions, and we’ll reply with an estimate. You’ll know the price before we do any work. If you decide not to go ahead after the inspection, we bring your rug back at no charge. Pickup and delivery are free.
Does my rug need a wash before a fringe repair?
Yes, always, even if it’s fairly new. We wash it first and then repair the fringe, all in one pickup and one delivery. Mention the fringe when you book, so we know to take a close look.
Should I trim loose fringe before you pick it up?
Please don’t cut or pull loose threads. Leave the fringe as it is, and we’ll tell you what we suggest once we’ve seen it.
How long does a fringe repair take?
That depends on your rug and the work it needs. Regular cleaning usually takes about a week, and the fringe repair comes after the wash. Ask us when you book and we’ll tell you.
