Pet urine and stain removal for area rugs

Pets are family, and accidents happen. For pet stain removal, we wash your rug at our facility and treat urine as an extra step, so we deal with what’s underneath, not just the surface.

Pickup and delivery are free. Cleaning is priced by the size of your rug, and you'll see the full price before we start.

Why it’s different

Why urine needs more than a wash

It goes deeper than you can see.

Urine soaks through the pile into the base of the rug, and sometimes into the floor below. A spot that looks small on top is often much bigger underneath.

As it dries, it can leave a yellow mark and a smell that comes back on warm or humid days. Cleaning only the top can push it further in. Over time, the odours will be more noticeable and unpleasant. Pet odours also don’t make the best impression on guests.

  • Yellow rings
  • Stiff patches
  • A returning smell
  • Repeat accidents

If you notice any of these, it’s worth having the rug looked at.

What we do

How we treat pet urine

Found first, then cleaned and treated.

Our rug cleaning services will remove pet stains and odours.* This rug cleaning process also works to remove the source of the odours.

  • Look We find the affected areas, front and back.
  • Wash The whole rug is washed, not just the spot.
  • Treat Urine areas get our enzyme odour treatment, an extra step that goes after the smell, not only the mark.

Enzyme odour treatment is an extra step. You’ll know the price before we start.

Smell still there after our enzyme odour treatment? On any type of rug, whatever the smell, you don’t pay for that treatment.*

* Read the conditions in Our promises in detail.

Other pet messes

Muddy paws, hair and other pet messes

Having a pet when you have rugs means extra maintenance.

Pets can create different types of rug stains from urine, dirt and shedding. Here’s how we look after the messes other than urine.

  • Vomit Can leave a colour stain. Scrape up what you can and blot; we treat what’s left.
  • Mud Most muddy paw prints lift out in a full wash.
  • Hair A full wash lifts out hair that the vacuum leaves behind.
  • Chewing Chewed fringe or edges can often be repaired. See rug repair.

Tell us about your pets when you book, so we know what to look for.

What to do in the first few minutes

Quick, gentle steps help.

  • Blot up what you can with a dry towel or paper towels. Don’t rub.
  • Don’t add water or any cleaner. On silk and viscose, that can do lasting harm.
  • Skip steam and heat. Heat can set the stain and the smell.

Then book a pickup. The sooner a rug is treated, the better.

Not sure what to do? Just roll up your rug and call (416) 939-7571. We’ll come and get it, so there’s nothing for you to worry about.

Pet tip: having an entrance mat can help maintain your carpets. Pets wipe their feet here, and this minimizes the amount transferred to your carpets. If your pet has an accident in the house, they are more likely to go on the entrance mat. They associate the entrance mat with going for a walk since it is close to the door. See entrance mats.

Questions

Pet urine questions

The questions we hear most, answered plainly. For anything else, just call us.

Will the smell be completely gone?

That’s what our enzyme odour treatment is for, on any type of rug, whatever the smell, and it comes with our odour promise*. Colour is different. Urine that has soaked in again and again can leave a yellow mark, which needs stain treatment and falls under our stain promise*. If it has bleached the dye, though, the lighter patch isn’t covered.

Is enzyme odour treatment included in the cleaning price?

No. It’s an extra step on top of cleaning, priced by what your rug needs. You’ll see the full price before we start, and pickup and delivery are free.

Why does my pet keep going on the same spot?

Pets often go back to places that still smell of urine to them, even when you can’t smell it. Treating the rug properly can help break the habit.

Do you treat cat urine too?

Yes. Cat urine is often stronger, so it’s worth having the rug looked at sooner rather than later.

Should I use a store-bought cleaner first?

No. Blot up what you can with a dry towel and leave the rest to us. Store-bought cleaners can spread the stain, leave a residue or affect the dyes.
